[T]HERE IS A TEXTILE PROJECT telling stories of different coördinates. This concept explores in what way textile can mentally bring us to different places.
By travelling to three different places within The Netherlands, using a system of random coördinates, I came across three various environments. The inspiration gained from these places were translated into three themes of material paintings and prints: 52.0705°, 4.3007°/ 52.7055°, 4.7053°/ 52.0419°, 5.1563°.
Inspired by chef Virgilio Martinez who creates dishes from the altitudes of the Amazon with the aim to make people travel mentally through food, I asked myself if this concept could be applied on textiles. Not by using altitudes, but by using coördinates.
The project strives to reduce the carbon footprint of people by encouraging ‘local tourism’. The idea of the concept is to make people appreciate the
little things in their environment by discovering the unknown in their own neighbourhood.
